My Notch is named Helen, after my grandmother who raised me. She unfortunately passed away a week after I bought the Notch, so it's a tribute to her. The wife calls it the Green Bean, because of the Birch Green color, and she thinks it's a car that Mr Bean English actor would drive in one of his movies. :D
The Karmann Ghia we own is just called 'Carmen'. Lame, but my daughter named it. :D |

| Anne. The PO bought the notch for his wife and she died, so when I bought her I named her after his wife as a tribute. He really loved the car. |

| Bloo, from Foster's home for imaginary creatures. It was one of my sons favorite shows, and it was on much of the time in the garage during the restore. It's not baby blue anymore, but the name stuck. |

| Gladis was the name of the 60 beetle that I use to have. The 36hp ran, but I never drove her. Sat in the back yard a few years as a candidate for a fixer-upper. She became a partial trade for my Notch which I also have not driven YET!!! (1904 engine build almost done, I have a thread on the engine build) Deffinetly a girl though. My Westy Bay has not told me her name, After 8 years of devotion- short story long... Purchased right after high school with engine trouble, thought is was Ign. Nope cam gear rivits into the oil pump, bought a long block from AZ Aircooled- after install determined crank must have been bent, for it would not turn over without a tight spot, removed and returned with partial credit and wouldn't give back my core, so a little in the tail pipe over that one....Jerome Jamboree- Picked up a "good" motor with NO problems, installed and discovered cracked Cyl. head or heads. Removed for repair. This brings us to Bugtoberfest @ Chirco looking for a single carb manifold (because I couldn't get my dual carbs to balance on a motor with cracked cylinder heads :D ) and wha-la a motor with a single carb manifold. 25.00 for the manifold or 50.00 for the whole thing, talked him down to 35.00 due to a crack in the case and I was on my way. Remember No money, No form of transportation, and living with my grandparents in a town that wasn't hiring 18 year old pot-heads. Went home put in my 35.00 motor with my dual carbs, and a roll of gasket material and RTV and away I went, 55mph tops was the best I could get. Which was better the the 40mph tops that I had gotten in the previous motors. Found a job and saved up little by little building my own motor using ever resource I could. After I finished the short block and had the pistons and cylinders installed. My 35.00 junker lost a valve in the combustion chamber broke a hole in the #2 piston and proceeded to destroy itself in the driveway. Moved back to my parents with nothing not even a piggy bank. I mean NOTHING, got a job cleaning pools to get back on my feet saved up enough to move out and buy 1 NEW cylinder head at a time. Turned my short block into a long and fired it up in my dads shop.Did it all by myself and runs great. been to Northern Az and down into Mexico. It has allways been my dream to travel the coast and camp in her all the way. You'd think that after all that she'd tell me her name. Kinda a long story that has nothing to do with type 3's but just something I was thinking about while I was reading the other posts. I hope my Notch will tell me her name sooner the my Bay. |
