Fund it on eBay a few days ago whilst I was planning my trip to Kleft & Klonk. She was living in Carslile with a nice guy called Lee Moses who imported her 18mths ago.
Lee bought her to keep & has done a terific job painting her. It was originally from Sunny Calefornia by one familly from new. I got a pile of reciepts dating back to 1980. Lee stripped the outside & carried out a bare metal respray in base coat & laquer. It has never been welded (apart from the side markers etc) Its 100% rust free & there isn't a mark or blemish anywhere.
Its the 1979 2.0L Fuel Injection engine with electronic breakerless ignition, Ctalitic converter & oxygen sensor, its much more efficient than a normall air cooled & drives spot on. I've driven home tonight 400 miles without missing a beat.

Damn, that bus is why we should never export another bus to the UK.

Ever.

Congratulations chrisradioman! Looks like a great find and a worthy replacement for your late Chug-Chug, or at least a darn good starting place.

You'll be able to enjoy that camper very soon, as opposed to wading through another complete resto. IIRC '79 even has dual markings on the speedo for KPH & MPH! Just a bit of conversion from U.S. 120V accessory power to Brit. 240V camper circuits, and you'll be on your way!

You deserved a good break on your replacement VW camper; it appears you've gotten it. Good for you.

Go play! Have fun!

Wow! I've always liked that particular color on Westies and that's a beautiful bus. Can't wait to see more of it. Enjoy.

He'll probably carry 4 or 5... Still sorry for your Chug Chug, but nice find ! Don't burn this one or we'll all come to burn you 8) . I'm jealous. This bus is perfect.

Very nice looking bus Chris, congratulations!

I guess Lee did the fuel lines when he went through it, although I'm sure you already though about that too. Are those whitewalls LT rated?

Bleyseng Sat Sep 20, 2008 5:24 am

Nice!
What is the seat material on the bed? Doesn't look oem.

Time to change the red and blue air controls on the dash! and order a Fuel Injection hose kit from Scott at German Supply to install new fi hoses.

I just did this for Marc and Eliana who told me they paid a shop to do in Miami but they were still 30 yr old hose connections and cracking.

Just read about Chug Chug the other day from start to finish and could not believe how it all ended - was going to post my sympathies but didn't know what to say. All though you had a sad ending with Chug Chug you have found a great beginning in this Westy. Good luck and enjoy!

If I am not mistaken, these are North American specification, left-hand drive headlamps, which will also need changing for British specification, right-hand drive, ECE-marked headlamps; preferably of the H4 variety.
