Hello. My turn signals will not work. When I turn on my headlights my turn signals stay lit and but will not flash. They get brighter for just a second, then they go back to normal. Neither the front nor the back will work. The emergency flashers will not work either. I replaced the turn signal relay to no avail. Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks.

Have you checked the flasher?

blarneyman Sun Sep 21, 2008 8:27 am

Is this a new problem?

Your headlight switch could be bad. Also, you could have bulbs that aren't seated well in the bulb holders for the blinkers. You said you replaced the flasher...

I have pulled the flasher switch out and it lights up, but the flashers themselves don't work they just a hair brighter for a second then fade back out.

Yeah, I recently changed the speedo and it started right after that. A buddy of mine has a Bentley book and we double checked all of the connections and it was wired correctly.

The drivers side front was a little loose, got it seated better and it lights up just don't blink. I replaced the turn signal relay.

Are you thinking I might need to replace the flasher switch?

No, the flasher itself.

Yeah I replaced it thinking that was the problem.

Hiya mnms,

Time for some specifics here............

The car in question is a 1970 Bug with electricals in stock shape, correct?

You say you replaced the flasher relay. What did you replace it with? (part numbers please or a picture)

Are you absolutely sure that you wired in the replacement flasher correctly? (aftermarket electronic flasher relays need to be wired in differently than original mechanical flasher relays)

Does your dash light turn signal indicator mimic the action of the turn signals outside?

MichaelinClayton Sun Sep 21, 2008 10:31 am

I vote putting the original flasher relay if the new one didn't fix it and looking elsewhere.

OK, I am going to get real technical here. My '68 not only has a flasher relay, but it also has a blinker/flasher noise maker mounted on the speedo. did you move that over when you changed the speed0? Is the wire connected? Does the '70 even have the blinker/flasher noise thingie?

Tell me to be quiet if I am blowing smoke.

Electrical is all square and in good shape.
The turn signal indicator doesn't work at all.
I replaced it with 211 953 215C from Mid America Motorworks part#302-765.

I went back to the original part since the replacement part didn't solve my problem.[/img]

Yes it has the blinker/noise maker and I hooked it up as it was before.

I'm not quite clear about this.

The 215C didn't work?

Or the 302-765 didn't work?

Or they are both the same part?

Can you clarify?

if you have a hazzard button try fiddling with that. mine needs to be turned the correct amount or the turn signals won't blink.

MichaelinClayton Sun Sep 21, 2008 10:39 am

is it possible to run straight 12 volt to the noise maker (can someone tell me what it is called) for an instant to see if it makes the click? I've never tried it so I'm not sure it is a good idea.

mnms70vw Sun Sep 21, 2008 10:40 am

They are the same part. 302-765 is the part # from MidAmerica

MIne is the same way, you have to have it juuusssst right.

The lights come on and just stay on, no blinking. The turn signals will not come on unless the headlights are on and still don't blink, they just remain lit up.
