| It has been suggested that I carpet the garage in which I store my Beetle during Buffalo winters....any thoughts?? The garage is not heated and condensation creates enough moisture with out the carpet to add to it I think...thanks for the help!! |

| I wouldn't do it...carpet holds moisture. |

Just make sure you have ventilation. Air moving around.
As for rodents, mothballs seem to work the best. I tried the Irish spring soap, and the mice ate the soap. |

| Not sure if it is the smart way but I put plastic down then park on it to help keep the moisture away from the bottom. |

Ditto on the moisture and ventilation already mentioned.
I wouldn't carpet the garage, even if it would be more comfortable while working on the car.
Put different tires on it, or put it on jackstands/dollies.
Sitting on the cold concrete slab will cause hard or flat spots.
Store your good tires in the basement, or at least off the floor. |

Moth Balls are not a good idea, unless you want to smell like Grandma's sweater  I've used them and had a dead mouse caught in a snap trap right next to the moth balls.
I use dryer sheets, its a better smell to live with the 1st week out of storage, and dissipates quickly, the moth ball smell seems to linger for months.
I also use snap traps w/ "Dots " candy, they work the best so far. |

I've used drippings from the fat from steaks. Just take a chunk and hold a match under it till it drips all over the trap. Don't have to re-bait as often and they can't steal it. Smells good too!
Caught 36 rats (don't ask) using that formula. |

Ive heard raising the car on jackstands to take the weight off the tires/suspension, helps to increase the life of the tires.
I put ammonia in little containers to keep the mice out. |
