I decided to build a fiberglass hood for my 356, did my research and pretty much understand the process.
The original hood, that I have, should serve as the plug for the mold (that I also want to make out of fiberglass) to get a perfect fitting (different color, a hole in the middle + Le Mans filler cap).
My worry is that I might mess up the original hood - that'd be bad and defeat the purpose.
I understand that there are various separating agents. Which one should I use?
Anybody who has some experience with similar project?
Any tip is welcome.
Thx! |

Your plug should be smooth. slick. and wax it with mold release wax. ( 5 times Min. )
Also use PVA ( Poly vinyl alcohol ) sprays on and creates a barrier.
Ask a local F-glass place how much they want to do it.
Might surprise you
If you do it yourself, remember to not lay-up the mold too hot.
It could ruin the paint on your hood.
DON'T BE IN A HURRY !!! Let it cure between processes, You get a much, much better part.
I get my stuff here. http://www.fgci.com/ Check out the "how to " section. |
