Hi I am Heather and I am trying to sell my 1979 Super Beetle convertable. I don't know how I go about finding out what my car is worth. It has the original 30,000 miles on it and the only thing replaced has been tires, battery and brakes. It is in excellent condition.
Could someone tell me how much it is worth, or where I could go about finding out? Thanks for any help you can give me. |

| Search the classifieds for cars in similar condition and use that asa ballpark figure. |

www.nadaguides.com says average retail for your car is $10,250, and high retail is $16,600.
You should look at classified ads here on Thesamba as well as in Hemmings and other collector car publications to see what similar cars are being priced at. The low mileage of your car is a plus. Also a plus would be no mechanical or body problems, as well as a high degree of original equipment.
That being said, I sold my 79 Super Convertible in 2004 for only $8,000 even though it had a new top, no rust and was in very good condition all around. Given the lousy current state of the economy, I have to doubt that NADA number. |

If the car looks and runs real good, you should be able to find someone to pay a bunch for it (high estimates that were mentioned). A serious VW person is going to want some sort of verification on the miles (such as service history, state inspection records, etc) - Anyone can reset an odometer........Takes me about 45 minutes and I have only done it twice.
You can also look at ebay for an idea of price, The one huge plus that you have is that good solid low mileage bugs are rare in the northeast. |

Just depends what the buyer will pay.
Pictures tell it all...paper work with the vehicle tells a lot also. |

Well, technically 3 times - first time was on a junk speedo to see if I would screw it up, next two were for my cars that are on the road to "match" the original odometer setting on the speedos that I replaced.
And everyone knows that ALL odometer readings should be 100% accurate and that they conclusiveley indicate the conditon of the car....... LOL Hell, after what all I did on the 65, I should have set it back to 0... |
