| I believe there's a button on the speedo box behind the coolant res. Push it and it's reset. |

Correct (except it's an OXS counter box). |

Red button? Usually, it's white.

| Isn't that switch on the backside of the speedo cluster? Or is that for early 80's models only? |

I'm pretty sure that only the USA-made Rabbits from 81-84 had it as part of the speedo head.

| My old 82 had it on the back left of the speedo cluster... Odd. Little metal switch you flipped up with a bent coat hanger. It also had A/C and vacuum assisted heater controls. Maybe it wasn't USA Made? Had the Westy front end though.... |

It's either a red button or a white button; all depends on which box Karmann/VW decided to stick in the car as it rolled along the assembly line. It's possible that you simply didn't press it in far enough; use a ball-point pen or a pencil to push the button in and make sure the electrical connection is good.

It was USA-made. The USA-built Rabbits, as stated in the post above yours, had the OXS reset built into the instrument cluster. |

| I guess none of the ones i've seen had a red button. They do make a decent "click" once you pressed them down enough to reset them. |

| Just a "Thank You" to those with the solution from a first time visitor. Especially to glutamodo for his picture. For some reason I don't remember ever resetting this on my '85 GTI owned from new even tho' I'm at 103,000 miles. I'm sure I'll be back! |
