I did my '62 Split with it a few years ago. Much better than the starting point, that's for sure. I rolled it on, never lost any of the gloss even here in beautiful Central New York.
Before:
After:
I didn't do anything special, did no bodywork of any kind, didn't thin the paint at all. I washed the Bus and dried it, and went to work with the roller. Did the grey the first day, the white the next. |

how many coats did you wind up doing and what are the benefits of not thinning besides needing less coats? I am going to start prepping this weekend and would like some extra tips. Thanks |

It saves paint, dries quicker and makes the whole process quicker, but not having to wait a long while for each coat to fully dry. I mixed my paint to the point that is was about as thick as milk and sprayed it. Don't worry about making the first coat cover alot of the under paint / metal.
It fully dries to the point that you can put on a coat, wetsand, anorther coat and wet sand, all in a day... Here are some pics of the interior of my doors. I did not buff yet either... You can see in pic # 1 the reflection of my cell phone light. It came out like glass. Pics # 3 and 4 show the door with only (1) coat of thinned paint, fully dried and hardened. I will buff after about 4 coats...

| Looking good, I hope mine comes out looking like that. I am stuck rolling it on, but I hear it works out ok in the long run. |

| I think you would get better results if you were to roll it... It would just take longer to do it that way... |

I mixed green, yellow and red to get REALLY close to the original sage green.
Do you remember the mix that you ended up with to get that sage green color? It looks good! |

| The best leveling additive for basic off the shelve paint if you are going to brush or roll is a product called Penetrol, my friend painted his truck with a brush and it came out stunning. Very level and very shiny he used one shot lettering enamel for sign painting. |

Here's my brother's car after we sprayed it with "dark blue" Tremclad last night. Unfortunately it's not drying very quickly. I'll post some assembled pics in a week or 2 when it finally dries.

here is my completed passenger side door. I rolled on red rustoleum. I havent even buffed it yet and it is nice and shiny!
the plexi-glass above the cup holder is in the event that a soda etc might spill during driving. that way, you can just wipe it off the the plexiglass instead of the fabric

We used Rustoleum Topsail Blue. Need to finish the drivers side and do the windows, still a work in progress, but so far, so good.

I must say that these roll on jobs look better then some single stage paint jobs that I have seen. My buddy just got his 91 Jeep painted at a franchise paint place, and we both agree that my roll on paint on the passenger door looks better then his. My door hasn't even been buffed yet either...
He paid $1200.00 with body work. I paid about $45.00 so far. |
