I needed to replace the frozen motor in my 73 Super Beetle. So, tonite with beer in hand, the motor was on the floor in roughly 30 minutes. Not too bad for my first time.

Now its time to get the new motor together and to get it installed this weekend.

Thank you for letting me brag for a few minutes.

its hilarious after you do it the first time cuz you are like "oh....thats it? really?"

very easy if you have the right tools. getting it back in takes a little more time, but i am getting faster everytime i do it.

i was thinking about taking out my engine to change spark plugs. its not that much more time, and i wont have to cut up my knuckles.

Cut access holes instead; Glenn has a photo. I also did this on mine 25 years ago.

Our first time we had it in and out three times in the matter of about an hour. When I first realized we had to pull it, I was a bit nervous, but after the fact, no biggie. I was also surprised that I could literally pick up the transmission and walk around with it at my leisure.

it's just a 1.5 inch hole dead on with the spark plug so you can get an extension with spark plug socket in there. the holes i have for the carb is just to get a flat head screw driver through.
