I use synthetic oil in all my other cars but I do not think even Mobil 1 was around when I owned my last bug ,
so does anyone run it in their Beetle ?
I mostly use it to lower engine temp and I get a little better gas mileage especially in my turbo car .
so yay or nay? and what do you suggest? :?: |

Synthetic oil can handle heat better before breaking down but having a cooling set-up and the engine properly tuned is the better route for solving problems with oil getting too hot because the engine is too hot.
If the engine is new or freshly rebuilt with good compression, synthetic oil can be a good way to go. If the engine is a bit worn, I was told to stick with the fossil oil or be prepared to be adding oil between changes more often.
Brad Penn and Royal Purple was recommended to me when I switched from a stock 1585cc Type I to a 2056cc Type IV. I don't know if the zinc and phosphate content needs to be different if going with a synthetic in a Type I engine. |
