| I recently tried to take my '79 Beetle Convertible for a cruise around town however, the engine would turn over but not start up. The car is in a very clean condition with only 60,XXX original miles on it and a few minor cosmetic defects(some rust on the hood, tear on the top at the rear view window). I haven't driven it in a couple months now so I replaced the fuel and fuel filter thinking that old gas might be the issue- not the case. So I looked at the throttle body and bypassed the multi-switch controlled by the butterfly valve and measured the resistances of each switch and everything checked out according to the owner's manual. My question is, when I disconnected the switch to the fuel pump the car started up and I was able to drive it around the block, why was this allowed to occur? Is there a computer malfunction that I am overlooking? Please, any help would be greatly appreciated as I am trying to get the car to run in order to sell it. |

Are you developing adequate fuel pressure? 26 psi to get into the game.
If not I would suspect the double relay or the power which connects the double relay to the starter. |
