Sweet. Careers at JC Whitney

DeathBus Mon Sep 29, 2008 8:06 am

Now you need to find a place that sells those neat hose clamps like this

in bulk for cheap and you will be set!

Just remember to bring along the fire extinguisher.

Cheap probably doesnt equal good when it comes to fuel line.

Maybe buy a 4.99 fire extinguisher while you are at it.

And some fire retardent pants!

Why does everybody have to be rude? I was just trying to get the word out on a good deal.

We appreciate that tip but you've go to realize that the reputation of JC Whitney is cheap $$ = cheap quality.
Not very often do their products that are cheap $$ = a great deal.

They don't have a history of selling quality merchandise at all.
They are kinda an automobile parts joke. Very similar to the old ad "uh oh, better get Maaco" being the definition for a cheap low quality paint job.

I'd be scared to use the fuel line, it must be marked down for a reason.

considering the fact that it's STANDARD fuel line and prone to pop off anything METRIC, then yeah, you'll need to extinguisher.

Two things:

1) J.C. Whitney does, indeed, suck ass, and is not worth supporting.

2) Some people have zero restraint when it comes to smart ass comments.

Well now I know! that was my first time ordering from them anyways, and I dont plan to use it on a vw main reason being I sold my Vw awhile back. Im going to be using it on a domestic so I figured there would be a few people on here that could use it.

That has to be one of the most random collections of sentences I've ever read. 'im a 71' and back' - ?!? 1500 foot hot water? Looks like some of the subject lines in the spam I get.

I use 5/16" fuel line on Fuel Injection engines. but not hose that is only rated at 50 psi. Most actual fuel hose now days is rated at 250 psi burst.

Besides, if they are "marking it down, that means it has been in inventory too long, and want to get rid of it.
I hate to say it, but fuel hose is not like wine. It does not improve with age.

I've purchased a lot of good stuff through the years from JC Whitney, also, bought some decent items at comparative prices for VW stuff as well. i think some people just tend to be e-thugs.

gt1953 Tue Sep 30, 2008 8:24 pm

The real bottom line is Do Not Skimp on Fuel line.

tstracy39 Tue Sep 30, 2008 11:11 pm

I've had mixed results with JC Whitney. The worst was a repro side view mirror that looked like it could have come off a toy pedal car. Second worst was a tin can repro muffler. The thing is, you can buy the exact same parts from other suppliers for slightly more. Usually buying parts from JC Whitney is no worse than buying them on ebay but then again that's not saying much. One thing though:

I've had Karmann Ghia P&R (AKA Airhead Parts) screw up no fewer than three orders out of ten I've placed with them, sending me incorrect parts that had to be sent back at my expense, while JC Whitney hasn't messed up a single one out of a dozen or so orders.

I will go out of my way not to deal with KGP&R and or (AKA Airheads parts).

Find a local source if possible or some other vendors if you can, you will get much better results if you do your homework.
