| So I notice when driving in the gentle misty rain showers in Malibu that my wipers have 2 speeds but they only move at 1 speed. is there an explanation for this? I don't use them much but with winter coming up i might need them a few times a month. |

| my 71 is the same way, s l o w after running the wipers awhile they start to get faster, i figure the factory grease aroung the gears is getting hard, and after the motor warms up the grease softens up..... |

| Mine seem to always be the same speed but they are supposed to have 2 speeds and both positions of the handle are the same speed |

| Mine just plain sucks. Very slow. Can these motors be "rebuilt"? I was thinking of taking it to an electric shop, but by that time, its probably cheaper to buy new. |

Slow and slower.
Probably time to pull the wiper assembly and grease he spindles and lube the wiper motor shaft. |

| If you remove the wiper blades entirely, they go a lot faster. |

| Mine are the same, when i first switch them on they go so slow that the passenger usually giggles about it but after a few (2-3) cycles they speed up and get going at a reasonable pace. I do have 2 speeds though, not much difference in it really but it is there. Speaking as somone with both speeds functioning I can say it is probably not worth dumping too much money into trying to get yours to work on both. It really doesnt make much difference, money would be better spent on a bottle of rain-x. Mind you my turn signals don't cancel either and I have never really even considered fixing it, just doesnt seem worth the trouble once you get used to it. |

Without any water on my windshield, the wipers struggle to move at all. And even with two speeds, I really missed the "variable" speeds of my modern cars - past and present - so I bought a kit from Wayne Johnson, and it works great!! It wasn't that hard to install, includes an electric washer pump and with it all I have a "modern" Wiper & Washer system. :D

Hi,
In mine bus difference between the speeds (without wiper blades on glass!!) is veeery little
Ten (10) cycles of wiper blades movement on "slow" speed lasted 16 seconds, while the same ten cycles on "fast" speed lasted 14.6 seconds.
So difference between one fasts cycle and one slow cycle is only 0.15 sec!!!
Wiper mechanism pivots were cleaned and lubricated a few weeks ago. Wiper motor gear and brushes look OK.
Does anybody knows what is wrong :?: :?: :?: |

| Thick grease in the wiper motor or crappy grounds and contacts. You actually removed the shafts from the pivots? or did you just oil the ball joints? |

Sure, complete wiper mechanism has been removed, disassembled into parts, greased/oiled, assembled and mounted back. At present it works faster as previously but no real difference between the two speeds can be noticed  |

| Ther are a couple of lube points and a little fresh grease never hurts. |

| check the wires going to the switch on the column and the connections to the motor, sounds like the wiring is mis-pinned. Could also be the switch itself. Check the resistance going in and out of all the wires, and I'm not sure, but does yours have a relay to change the speed? You know you have power and that the motor works so that leaves whatever is in between.......... |
