I was at the auction today. Sold for $22,000 to a local enthusiast. A great addition to his collection.
What an incredible time capsule to say the least! Here is the background on the bus.
A gentleman owned some Dairy Queens in the Xenia, Ohio area years ago. In 1960, he decided to invest in a franchise known as the Rolling Donut Company, a portable donut and coffee outfit. A specialized 'roach coach' so to speak. And having a VW Bus was part of the plan. So he bought a brand new 1960 VW Bus and had it outfitted with the Rolling Donut Company signage and equipment.
The owner then hired an individual to drive the bus from Xenia to the GM Factories in Dayton to sell coffee and donuts to the factory workers. This they did from 1960 to 1965. Until the owner found out his employee was skimming cash from him. The owner fired the employeee and was so upset by this, he parked the bus in his garage and never used it again. And the bus has stayed in that garage ever since!
Here are a couple of pics from today's auction.

So was there any donut machinery still in the bus? Or for sale at the auction?
I bet it had a little Belshaw Donut Machine in it once. They're pretty neat little machines:

You could clean up at shows with fresh donuts and hot coffee at 6am.

No, none of the donut equipment was included or even at the auction. Didn't get the story behind where the equipment went to.
A little machine like that would be perfect in this bus. |

| one of most favorite stops at the Del Mar Fair in San Diego was the mini-donuts! every year i'd go by to see Dixie and the girls, usually a couple of times. they run a very similar machine. |

I'll about guarantee you that's what was in there. They've been around forever. My grandfather owned one in the 1930's. He took it to county fairs. |
