I have several jerry cans but the spouts dont fit into the fuel filler opening on my 87/ syncro. It seems the fuel restrictor is in the way... can it be removed ?

Thanks
Bob

I assume you're talking about the metal flap in the filler opening? If you really need to fill it with the jerry cans, just find something that can prop it open. A stick, a pen, etc. That will allow the gas to flow through without spilling out the top, as long as you dispense the fuel slowly. Is this not what you mean? If not, my bad! I need sleep.

My metal 5 gal Jerry can came with a funnel attachment for that issue.

What the heck is a Jerry can?

something like this

<<My metal 5 gal Jerry can came with a funnel attachment for that issue.>>

Not a OE WWII, Korean conflict, or Viet Nam Jerry can--- it has a screw in spout / flexable neck only--no funnel.

Maybe some aftermarket Chinese look alike came with a funnel attached somewhere.

It'd be a tough job of getting that 5 gallons of gas into a propped open restrictor plate or use a funnel--it'd be a two man job.

I suggest one of those long-necked funnels such as the one I use to put Marvel Mystery Oil into Winston with every fill-up. I emptied a jerry can that was leaking into Winston using that, with no difficulties at all.

Best!

If you have an old style Jerry can with the screw in cap then you can just use standard pipe fittings to make up whatever kind of adapter you want. You can also adapt from pipe to hose if that would work better for you.

Actually my can is made in the USA by Blitz, and they have plenty of attchments to go onto their jerry cans. while their company name has changed/merged through the years, They did make cans for the military back in the day so their large screw in attachments will probably thread into your old can.

oh and the funnel attchemt works fine.

I carry this one in my westy, its NLA, Was made in Germany. One of my customers found it through BMW when they picked up their car at the factory under the Tourist delivery program years ago. They bought a few to sell through their company (Stainless Steel Brake Line co.) they were actually big seller even @ $200+ a pop but when they went to order more the company in Germany had quit making the tanks. They gave me this one, it got dinged in shipment so they could not sell it. Is got a stepped down nozzle soldered to it to fit into the fuel inlet of todays cars:

I would imagine something like this (the step down) could be made if your crafty enough

Your Blitz spouts are for unleaded gas.

They sell a spout for leaded gas too, that is not too fat to fit into the gas tank fill pipe.

or you can use a super siphon

I dont think much of Blitz gas cans, my preference is the Wedco style.

The spout they sell fits a gas tank without modification:

However, if you have the old Con-Fer carrier for a Blitz can, it wont work with a Wedco can..

Answer = use a funnel

handy for topping up motor oil as well.
