Well my story goes something like this.
I bought a wrecked 1999 Honda VTR1000F Super Hawk. I completely tore it apart and repaired, modified, or replaced everything on it. In the end I had a "StreetFighter" that was a total of nine different bikes put together plus some custom parts. It looked a little something like this:

My wife is in school for nursing, working, and we just had our second child. I didn't want to be on the road as much because of the kids, and because of our schedules I didn't really have time to ride even when I wanted to. I tried to sell my motorcycle, but people were afraid of the rebuilt title. I decided to trade my friend, that finally used his engineering degree to be an engineer, for his large Snap-On tool box. It looked a little like this:

After two trips on CraigsList and two rounds on eBay with no interest I set my mind on trading. I wanted something that was just as fun as my motorcycle. Something that I could build up over time. Also something I could share with my family. After looking around I decided on a classic Volkswagen Beetle. Oh, but not just any Beetle. After scouring the Internet I finally found a Beetle I liked with an owner willing to trade for the tool box. It just so happened to already be VolksRodded. BONUS! It looks a little like this:

Now a little about my new love. I call her Mistress because during the 300ish mile ride home she beat the crap out of me and I loved every minute. Mistress is titled as a 1969. I'm not really sure due to the oval window that I can't find any evidence of being grafted in. I got her from a guy in Troy Ohio on Sunday, and he got her from a guy in North Carolina in 2006. That's all I really know. I'm new to the air cooled game.I was hoping someone here might know my car and would be able to enlighten me as to her history. So check her out. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help figure out her history. Please let me know if there is anything you think would make her a better car too. Thanks for looking. Great to be a part of the forum.

You say, "looked a little like this", are those the pictures of the actual stuff or not? I like the tool box.

Actual Stuff Shown. Sorry for the confusion.

Just needs something done about those 3 tail pipes?

That car has nice proportions.
But yeah, lose the exhaust.

A good stock muffler is prolly sensible on a 300 mile commuter car, but anything's allowed on Volks Rods!! We actually put just 1 $10 used Harley muffler on first, changed it up to 2 mufflers later!

bias ply are scary in the snow or rain

Schmuck Wed Oct 22, 2008 6:32 pm

Bias ply tires are scary all the time.
Okay..... Exhaust fixed.

Now I have a question about the rear suspension. I replaced the rear control arm bushings. All the parts ame with the car from the PO. The control arm and two washers seem kind of loose in the mount. Am I missing something? Are there other parts in there that I don't have? I also replaced the spring plate bushings. The smooth inner bushing fit snugly on the spring plate and loose in the torsion housing, and the bumpy outer bushing fit snugly in the end housing but loose on the spring plate. Is this right or am I missing something?
Thanks for any help.

i like that streetfighter.

looks like my Seca II...

But back to the VWs... i love that volksrod.

speaking of bikes+VWs, you should put on some fishtail exhausts from a harley. that would look awesome...

black and red is awesome.

that exhaust is 10x better!!! where'd you get it?

Schmuck Thu Oct 23, 2008 7:37 pm

The exhaust as well as some other goodies are from LovinBuggies.com

They were very helpful and very nice. Good pricing too.

Prolly aftermarket bushings that don't fit right like the originals! Don't throw away the original bushings you took out! You might need them?

Schmuck Wed Nov 12, 2008 8:30 pm

Well, as much as I love my mistress, I need something I can get the whole family in.
Does anyone want to trade for a clean, straight, stock driver?!?!?
PM me please.

AJ Quick Mon Dec 22, 2008 3:46 pm

Less than a month later you want to get rid of it?
