Sounds as if plug wires are crossed or the timing way off.

So what is the swamp reference?

its a AR engine which was converted to a 1600cc..the car does stay running i think it may be valve timing...

Might be valve lash too tight.
Hope it's not valve timing or the case has to come apart.

Double check the plug wire orientation and the timing.
The engine can run with some wires crossed.

Not familiar with AR code.
Check this link for engine ID.

ok so i took a look at the rocker and adusting screws were all loose so i decided to swamp them off the old 1600 after i went to start the car nothing..checked timing...its seems like its making no compression...

Good ole Pomona specials, gotta love em. Or hate em. Sorry to hear.

Did you adjust the valves after you did this. It sounds like they are not completely closing now.

ok so i ajusted the valves and tested the compression and started to make compression but i still hear the rockers hit the valve covers, white smoke out the tail pipe, and back firing..I think it the valve timing now...
