View original topic: Throttle Cable Selection and Routing

My new 2110 motor is almost done -- should get it in a week or so. I am sticking with dual Weber 44s on the new motor (same as the old motor). The throttle cable (Morse type) on the car now (since I bought it) is a "weak link" due to the "rigging" where it attaches to the linkage arm. I want to install whatever cable would be the best and route it in the best possible way. The existing cable comes thru the firewall to the left of the fan shroud and pulls the linkage arm forward.

I have seen the cable going thru the fan shroud so that the cable pulls the linkage arm forward. I have also seen the cable go under the motor (toward the back of the car) so that the cable pulls the linkage arm down (rather than forward).

Does anybody out there have a recommendation? I know... Silly question... I would really appreciate your input on this!!! Please post pixs if you have a nice set-up!!!

I don't know which is best but I would stick with the stock location if possible. It just seems right as that's where VW put it and that's where it should stay.

sorry my camera is broke but my cable runs through my fan shroud and i have have done it like that on all our motors, im my opinion it is what works best, because it is a "straight shot" with no beds in the cable

I ran a sealed marine throttle cable on my rail. It resists salt water and sand. It has adjustments at both ends, able to bend and aslo can be pushed or pulled in case of stuck throttle. Had great luck with it.

Sorry for the bad pics. Don't have the rail anymore.

i 2nd the stock location idea, its the best way to keep it tight and out of the way. you should be able to run a stock cable with your engine and not mess with the morse cable.
