belgiansoccerman Wed Oct 22, 2008 1:42 pm

Hey I am looking for my first car, and I want a vw. I keep changing mymind, and dont really know about them all to see what would be best. I like the cabrio, and the rabbit pick up, the bug and the baja bug. Whats the most relieable, best on gas, and wont need to be fixed constantly, and cheap! If you have anything for me please help me out!
Thanks
Phillipe

For that budget, none of the above. Well, you may luck out and find a Rabbit auto for that price but any car in your budget range and the age (70'2-mid-80's) will need constant attention.

I think you'd like the Rabbits. If you can find one in decent condition.
And they are cool cars!

If your plan is to spend that money and expect something that you will drive and enjoy on a daily or frequent basis without issues to deal with, then your expectation is probably a bit high. Read up on here and you will come across a TON of noobs who bought their first Bug and spend more time fixing this and that, than driving.
If your plan is to fix it up yourself as you go along and you have another reliable source for transportation, then your $2k+ will get you a nice Bug for starter.

"rather be driving than wrenchin"

If you are not budgeting in for a shop to do repairs, you better start liking wrenchin' .. . . . although it is ALMOST as fun as driving a VW bug.

That is probably the best advice ever!

I spent 2,100 on my beetle...it ran...I was happy. Then it stopped running. I've worked on it way more than I've driven it. In a budget, even if you find a car that runs at the time, you'll eventually have to open the decklid and get dirty. It's the circle of life man.

THANKS! I was just comtemplating adding a Z06 to my stable but wondered if that would be enough to quench the on and off need for speed. You just saved me $70k!!!!!

Now, where can I find me one of these slapstick BEAST!

I guess your not manly if you have an autostick. Too some, the vw beetle itself isn't.

I bought my autostick for $2300 and I've only had minor issues with it. The engine was rebuilt before I bought it, and the body is in great condition. So yea...you may be able to find one out there for your budget, but you have to count on working on them. Their not really low-maintenance.

Very true. In HS I was driving my Beetle and it certainly wasn't on par with the sports cars and 'Vette's that some other students drove. In vehicular terms, I was way below many others in their minds. The upside of it all was the the Beetle attracted the ladies to no end, more than any other car in the student parking lot.

The car required constant attention, and still does, but I had many a girlfriend that wanted to help me with a repair or oil change.

:D ok, I know I can find many slaptick Bugs in the Classified section but I want me a "BEAST" like yours. Heck, I may not need my Cobra anymore once I get me a BEAST Bug. I can imagine Viper, GTR, and Corvette drivers, and all the countless "fast and the furious" cars will tremble at the sight, sound, and speed of a slapstick BEAST. Dang! I can take my Chupacabra along for added intimidation! :P

It's also not far from you.
