View original topic: Sub under driver side rear seat?

My VW is parked at my uncles house, so I can't go outside and check. He lives about an hour away. :(

Either way, I'm thinking of picking up a sub for my VW. I already have a decent setup for my speakers (two in the package tray, two in the front kick panels) and I don't want to have to remake a new "tray" for my rear speakers by putting a sub there.

Can a 10" sub + box fit under the driver side rear seat? (Opposite from the battery)

well it all depends. i'm guessing you do not have a rear defroster? because the relay goes there. also what kind of 10" sub? you'll have to check the air specs for the sub in question to make the box to the proper qubic feet of air specs.

a simple yes or no answer will not work here, unless of course you don't care about making the box to specs.

why not put a box of 2 tens in the luggage compartment?

Because the back seat is pretty ... stuck. It's never been folded down except when the original owner put in the speakers in the package tray, and it's beyond a WD-40 repair to fold it down. Figure popping the back seat up and putting it under there is easier, but I only vaguely remember what was there/if anything, and I guess I remember it bigger than it was.

That, and I can only afford a sub in the $200 range, so I'd rather have one nice 10" than two mid range 10" ones ... then buy another if I want one 8)

i personally don't think you will get one to fit in a box made to specs no matter what brand. i've had some pretty crappy speakers in my time with spec made boxes, and i can't remember any of them that would of fit in that location.

Any suggestions on getting the seat un-stuck then? I pulled to the point the handle felt like it was going to snap, and I don't actually wanna break it because then I'd be really SOL.

WD-40 or liquid wrench on all the hinges and seat latches. If it's really that bad, that it won't come apart, you probably should not waste the money on the sub woofer. If your back seat is that rusted, then I would imagine your floor pans are almost completely gone and when you put the sub under your seat, it will most likely fall through the floor and then drag behind the car after it gets gobbled up by the cv joints and driveshafts.

Hope I wasn't too hard on ya!

The only way you could ever fit one there is with a fiberglass box that is custom built. At best then you could fit an 8". Check out local shops, they will better get you a price range.

Floor pans are actually on the list. :p

I guess I give it another go when I get the chance.
