I just bought a 72 super beetle, its lowered. Its way too low, I've taken the tires off but I can't seem to find the rear spring. I've been looking for diagrams for the rear suspension but have been unable to find any.
How can I lift the rear suspension up?
I just want to lift it high enough so I don't scrape my muffler coming out of every driveway, every bump in the road and every speed bump.
What controls ride height in the rear suspension?
I'll post pics of what my rear suspension looks like as soon as I get a camera. |

i don't own a super so i'm not familiar with super suspension. but here is a topic on how to lower a super, surely you can figure out how to raise it if you read how to lower it?

You're talking about the back, right? All beetles have the same rear suspension, either swingaxle (to 68) or IRS (69 and later). Yours is IRS. The rear is suspended by torsion bars in the tubes where the spring plates attach just behind the bottom of the leading edge of the rear fenders. It's relatively simple, but kinda involved, to adjust, just search this site. Use "rear torsion bar adjustment" in the search. I think...
Good Luck and let us know how it turns out. |

Also, when you ask questions, use that question for the title, like "Raising the rear of a 72 Super". Then, if you feel the need to call yourself a noob, you can do it as a precurser to the question. Then when we answer we can gear it towards someone who maybe doesn't know all the terminology.
Good luck. |

| Thanks for the advice, I found a great youtube video about adjusting the rear ride height. It never occured to me that it might be a torsion spring. I'm a noob to Air cooled VW, but I've done quite a bit with Water cooled VWs. I just wanted a classic to complement my 06 GLI. |
