What would have made my clutch cable too short? Stock 69 Beetle , newly installed cross shaft and TO bearing new cable .New pressure plate etc, installed a few months ago. Cable guide tube is attached, bowden tube is adjusted, but when I attach the clutch cable to operating lever on the trans, I end up with virtually no freeplay and the wingnut holding on by a couple of threads. Also, it,s very hard to depress the clutch pedal. Read a thread about aftermarket clutch plates that are too thick and I'm thinking this is the problem.Help

Make sure you got the correct cable, there are different lengths.

Also make sure you have the correct pressure plate/ throwout bearing combination. There are several different ones.
