Putting a swingaxle tranny in a irs pan, is that possible? what would i have to convert over? thanks... i was wondering b/c i can get a free swingaxle tranny and i have a irs and i need a new one.... my car is a 1969 also thanks guys.

Not unless you want to re-engineer the pan and do a lot of welding.

It's a straight swap. You'll probably need the swingaxle spring plates, torsion bars and end caps too.
Brakes might need to be changed as well, depending on year.

You take the entire IRS rear end out, and put the swingaxle stuff in its place.
Welding is required when putting an IRS suspension/trans in a swingaxle car, not the other way around. There's no re-engineering involved going the other way.

yep just swap it over and use swingaxle spring plates, ect .. not welding..

but you do have to have the spring plates bars and caps

It's a simple bolt in swap using all the swing axle parts.

IF
your bug is pre about 1974, and it has 2 side plates on it, rather than just one - and the other side cast

then you can simply transfer the diff into the swing axle trans
-even if the ring gear and pinion on your irs trans is fackered, it matters not, as you use the swing axle crown wheel - you have to

dont bother with it any hoots, unless it has the 3 drilled and tapped holes for the guide tube

plus you will have to change the noses, as the mounts are different

still its 'piss easy when starting with an irs car, as you can still roll it around, plus when you dont finish it, and scrap the car, its easier for the tow truck to remove
