| I've built a 1835 engine for a 1285 lb. fiberglass buggy. Engine specs are: 8.5-1 cr, fk8 w/ 1.4 rockers, 40 mm int. and 35.5 exh. valves, ported heads and intakes. I've cleaned the new carb's and set float levels. Fuel pressure set at 3.5 psi. Timing is 14 degrees at idle and 28 at 3000 rpms. 009 cent. adv. dist. w/ pertronix ignition and bosch blue coil. The carbs came with 36 vents, 175 air, 135 main, and 50 idle. The buggy doesnt idle smooth bogs at WOT. The exhaust is 1.5" header w/ quiet muffler (trimil) w/ electric exhaust cutout for noise on demand. I've done some research and math and came up with 32 vents and leave everything else. A local builder/tuner said I need 32 vents, 200 air, 115 main, and 40 idle. Who's right or are we both wrong. I want this buggy snappy fast from 0-70 mph with good drivability for cruising around. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

36 vents should work with those heads and cam. Try 55 idles, 145 mains and 200 airs with F11's. I would also look at the advance curve of your 009 as most have about 20-22 degrees of advance in the dizzy so 10 degrees initial works well.
Have you synced the carbs and gone through the lean idle setting on all carbs.
In my opinion you have way too much cam for the displacement and heads and not a high enough compression ratio.....but I am usually conservative.
And usually the rule is vents x 4 for the mains.... |

| Throw the Weber book away. You'd be better off with 30-32 vents, 2-3lbs fuel pressure max, 50 idles, F11, 200 airs, 120-125 mains. This will be in the ballpark. What are your floats set at? |

| yep sounds like you have a typical substandard 009, 10 degrees of advance is not good. |
