My 72 super has about 2-4" of play in the steering wheel, and the shaft with the pitman arm moves up and down when stressed. SO, I attempted to adjust steering box. Set screw was welded in. Ground out weld to replace set screw, but it does not come out.... I do have a complete steering box to replace it, but I can't seem to get the pitman arm off, even with gear puller on it. Should I be leaveing the pitman arm on and removing the dampener and tie rod instead? The tie rod end seems to be ceased in there too. Perhaps a trip to the garage is in order, but I really don't like paying their rates! Any help would be greatly appreciated

When you use a gear puller you need a big hammer as well. Tighten up the puller and whack the side of the joint hard to break the seal. It will pop off suddenly. Don't get hit with the puller!!
