WHY PUT A CHROMED SPRING IN THE CYLINDER?!?!?!?!?!?!?! why put unflexable chrome something that will see hundreds of thousands of compressions in the most vital system in a car?

So you KNOW you are looking cool while driving down the road. :2gunfire:

wellll started by sanding down the old paint on the new/used hood i bought for the buggy.

then began working on the interior of the car, got some of the gunk off the inside. The glue used for carpet i guess is really starting to annoy me. thennnnnn began working on the doors as everytime it rained they accumulated more surface rust.

also began dismantling the dash and cleaning it up for primer,
and the best part of today was i recruited the girlfriend for extra help =)

Nick, cover that Harely before you do any more sanding.
Door looks good.

nick cover your eyes too, Harly you can replace, eyes not so easy (ya I'm over 40 with kids, still see about 20-20 too)

I took bugzilla out for a cruze and broke a 1/2" grade 8 bolt, the one that holds spindle to lower A-arm and got stuck for about 10 min, just happened to be some nice folks out in trucks that stopped to help and I had it fixed in 30 min. Tie rod is a little bent but still saw nearly 50mph going back down the rocky road...
here is before-drivers side

here is passenger side after, spindle rotated clear around, just about ran out of brake line!

here is the view

sold my trailer today. broke as a joke. funny thing is that i still look at stuff to buy for my baja. hoping to get motivated and relocate the ebrake and shifter. we'll see.

I got my old 5/16 car back together, after 11 years
Been hoot'n around the hood in it (my hood is all dirt). The little shit still works pretty good in the rough stuff.
If Dustymojove would let her thru tech, I might even race her again

the boy and i got the truggy almost ready for wild hog trapping. got the bed finished and painted. have to get the lights wired and there was something about needing brakes.

I WAS going to go riding this weekend, but the battery was dead  . I'v got it charge and will be going out later today :D

olmer2 Mon Nov 09, 2009 6:06 pm

Pafree, I'm diggin' the truggy!

I tore down the carb tonight and I'm letting it soak overnight in carb cleaner. I also padded the side bars on the rail (my knee gets really sore after a short drive).

i wish my shop was that big. wow!

WD0AFQ Mon Nov 09, 2009 9:28 pm

The reason it is so big is because they paint 40 ft. motorhomes in there. North Indiana,

chubby53 Tue Nov 10, 2009 12:56 am

I'll take a pair also, maybe some pistons/cylinders also? if somebody's feeling generous.

65BAJA Tue Nov 10, 2009 9:25 am

Today I didn't do anything to my Baja cept look at some old pics and wish it was done enough to drive.

P.S. I've got some good single port heads for sale. lol.

I drilled hole in my empi oil filter mount and tapped it with a tapered pipe tap for my oil pressure switch. Doesn't sound like much, but it's all I've done since mid-october and it's something I can check off my to-do list. The engine is a type 3 that originally had the switch mounted to the oil cooler. I didn't want to tap the galley to install it in the traditional t1 location so I just put it there instead.

my son PJ (10) got put to the test. he has welded little pieces together for fun and learning but we wanted a bumper for the truggy. i cut the pieces and held them in place while he tacked them. i then told him to weld it out. he found my brother in laws fancy hood and took my gloves and went to town. i painted and mounted it while he was at school. when he got home, we were looking at it and he said it needed to be test. before i say it, he shouted that we need to hit a tree. we went for a ride in the woods and hit and pushed over a couple of small tallow trees and everything held tight. the welds are not the prettiest and he is a gorilla/dirt dobber welder like me but they held. the going joke between us is that the dead hogs wont care.

the plan will also included a skidplate come up from the beam.

chubby53 Fri Nov 13, 2009 10:22 am

Looks good, tell your kid that his welds look better than mine. lol. Is it connected to the stock bumper mounts? i would be nervous smashing into anything solid in fear of bending up the front end.
