View original topic: Difference in trans. mounts

Searched and couldn't find anything on this

Obviously different, is the new one okay to use or stick with the original?

Didn't realize when I took it out there was a difference in the up or down

orientation. Does that matter or is there a particular way that it goes as it

will fit both ways? This is off a 66 ghia.

If I need to re-use the original, how can I tell if it is still usable or wore out?

Long as the holes line up, I wouldn't worry about it.

Look at the orientation of the holes where it mounts up to the trans, then you'll figure it out pretty quick. :D

Use the top one in the photos. It has the 'backup' safety. If it breaks the mechanical safety will prevent the whole trans and engine from flopping around. The 'notch' goes UP on the one you should use.

So the notch is a catch for the "backup", so that would make the u of the notch go on in the inverted position to "hang" if needed? Gotcha, makes sense.

The top one is/was the original and the bottom one is the replacement

So how do you tell if the original is "wore" out, or would it be obvious that

it was because it would be cracked, tore, etc...? If that is the case then

there should be no reason to use the new one as the original is okay.

The OEM transaxle mounts came in regular and firm. I don't know if Berg has them in stock anymore, but they used to sell the extra firm OEM style transaxle mounts.

I can personally attest to the fact that if you use the HD aftermarket mounts, you WILL transmit a lot more noise and vibration into the car. If you want a quiet ride, stay away from the poly stuff.
