I have an exhaust leak between my heater boxes and header on both sides on my Ghia. The header was actually able to be slid around a bit inside the heater boxes, so I tightened the clamps down to the point where it wouldn't move any more. However, the leaks are still there.
Should I need to really wrench them down, should I get a new set of clamps, or something else?

You can take it to a muffler shop, or do it yourself. For about $20 in parts, you can weld flanges in place of the clamps. A very nice set up. Here's kind of a good pic of mine:

The stock heater box to muffler clamps are notorious for leaking when used with a header, because the diameters are slightly different than stock.
Brazing on flanges is the best way to go. I do say brazing, at least on the header end. Welding cause metal shrinkage. If you weld the flanges on the ends of the headers, it can shrink the diameter and you can have problems fitting the ends of your heater boxes into the header pipes. So brazing the flange is better on the header end.

| Auto part places sell this muffler paste stuff. Spread it on the heater part and slide the muffler part over it and then clamp. 'They' also sell this turned down pipe that gets hammered into the heat exchanger and gives a new surface for the muffler clamp. |
