Interesting how folks mount their racks in different position on the bus. I have the second VWoA rack shown above, but mine is mounted so the forward clamp is even with the pillar aft of the front doors.

I wonder if there were instructions for positioning the rack or if it was left up to the installer?

Is your bus lowered or is it just a weird photo angel? I like it's stance

Definitely lowered.

Yes, 3.250 in the rear with plates I made. Pulled the upper torsion bars out of the front for now to lower it.

Lowered trailing arms? Never heard of that before. Have some pics? Most guys go with drop spindles and/or narrowed/adjustable beam. I would post the response in the lowered thread so we don't hijack this thread.

I'm about to purchase a set of Thule 953 feet for my 1970 pop-top and wanted to get some feedback on what length load bars I should purchase. I'll be carrying two Kayaks and I'm sure the 65" load bars are wide enough for them based on Thule's load bar charts - but my question is would there be any value in purchasing the wider 78" load bars? I was thinking the extra width might make it easier to hoist the kayaks into their cradles. Any insight or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I've got the same thing and 65" crossbars work fine for our two kayaks...

I've got two repro Westy 2 bow roofracks from CSP. I had to customize the rear rack to fit behind the dormobile roof.
Anybody photo's from the original Martin Walker roofracks?

What sort of wind noise do you get from the 1/4 racks that mount way in the back only?

I love my full length rack, but when empty GOOD LORD IS IT LOUD.

Hi,

I used to have it mounted in the middle, front of the rack was just behind my head then. Had some noise then, sort of a 'humming'. Now in the back I haven't noticed any noise yet. Haven't driver highways yet though with rack mounted in the back.

Roof rack from Dave Perry. Custom Auto Racks. Cost $150 to ship from Clearwater FL. to Austin TX.

I did find an ad on local CraigsList that had a VW rack. No real description, so I contacted. This is what I found-a slightly damaged-Full VWoA Bay Window roof rack. All for the princely sum of $140 8)

All the end caps are there, all the brackets, the sticker and its not all beat and rusted to shit. It has had a PO hack-one leg was amputated for some reason. Ill have to fix that-easy \:D/

All in all I'm pleased.
