my old 79. This rack is/was a VWOA accessory rack. It was givin to me by the guy that originally bought it when he bought his bus from VW. I don't know why, but he cut the legs off, so I had to braze some new ones on. I put a 4x8 sheet of plywood up the shortly after this picture & Me and my friends would hangout up there in the parkinglot at concerts, it was a very sturdy rack & I miss it

Now that's a roof rack

Looks like that was a very busy day, buddy!

That looks like the 3/4 length rack on my bus. I think that it's a VWOA dealer accessory. I don't have the courage to walk on it, though.

The corner ladder is vary cool, too.

The ladders are still for sale.....s

Here is a shot of a Bus that I restored and sold. I did all the body and paint work. The new owner had the roof rack powder coated and finished the interior upgrade I started. He then sold the van, and that owner added new motor and then these pictures were sent to me. Anyone seen or know where it's at? Last seen in Everett Washington.

BTW, on my rack which is identical to this one, the original label reads:

Part No. ZVW153203
Max Load Capacity 220 lbs
Vendor Code B1

It's just big enough to carry a 4x8 sheet of plywood flat. I permanently mounted a sheet of 1/4 plywood to the rack which quiets down the wind howling and shades the roof of the bus, making it quite a bit cooler in th summer. I don't carry much on it, but it is certainly handy when something really long or stinky needs to be carried.

The big drawback is that a nice roof rack makes the bus a theft target.

I take it only a few of these are VW racks, if possible please tell where you got the racks and approx how much $ they cost.

How hard would it be to build one or modify an aftermarket rack to fit the bay?

Thanks everybody. I loved my Bug and will miss it but with a family a Bus is soooo much better.
