| I won't buy it anymore. The paper they print it on doesn't stand up to bongwater spills at all. You notice that too? |

Back in the day Hot VW's had a real variety of articles. You could find a feature car that was done by an average Joe with a cool (or not so cool ) idea. There was always a feeling that, maybe, if I build something nice with an unusual twist, MY car could get in there.
Now, If you haven't invested $60,000, and met their specific requirements to be either a perfect show car, or high end race car, you just won't see anything an average mechanic could build. I remember articles about building cars on a budget, and I even remember feature cars that had a little rust here or there.
I think they've just gotten lazy. It's too easy to call up one of their rich buddies to pull just another perfect restoration, or outrageously high budget custom out of their warehouse sized garage and show us another version of the came crap they've shown us for months.
We keep buying their crap, their crap keeps getting worse. |

It is not a rag.. It is all slick paper, and doesn't work worth a darn in the bathroom. |

They put the wrong year on one of the car captions this month. '54 when the car is a '61.
Last month they mixed up someone's build description, putting weeks in one place and days in another.
I still read it. |

| I leaf through it at the newsstand. If I see something interesting, I'll buy it, but it's seldom that that happens. |

I still get it, but I have it all the way back to when it was quarterly. It's more of a "collection" thing than an "enjoy reading it" thing.
I wouldn't mind the mag so much if they did like "Minitruckin" and showed more of the sub culture. I mean, nice clean cars are a must in a car mag, but what about something patina'd up, slammed and tucking big wheels (my style) or build articles other than how to change a fucking master cylinder. And if I see pics of another blue hair sitting in a lawn chair in front of cheezed-up beetle with color matched home-made trailer covered with stuffed animals at a car show, I may just stop "collecting". |
