| i currently own an'86 G.T.I. (my second water cooled) and have recently come across a '97 golf that has been wrecked beyond repair. i am curious if that motor and trans (5 speed) will go into my '86, is there any kits or adapters available for that swap or is it full custom, is that swap even worth it or just a cool idea. Thanks...Chad |

| I believe it will all be bolt in. You'll need the wiring harness and computer and maybe instrument cluster??? If I'm remembering correctly the 97 is cable clutch and shift linkage is the same setup as the 86. If you have a donor car it shouldn't be a big deal to do. I used a 2.0L ABA bottom end in my 81 Rabbit PU with no problems bolting up. I used the MK1 mounts, I would think you can use your MK2 mounts on it as well. |

Bolt your head onto the block of the 97. (ABA) block . You will need a freeze plug for the crank sensor and a spacer ring for the distributor. Call Techtonicstuning.com they will tell you what parts you need. you will also need some type of spacer for the exhaust. that block is 15mm'ish taller. Techtonics has all those goodies.
It is a nice swap. real torquey :)
If you use your head, you don't have any wiring changes. you don't get the advantages of the crossflow head, but you'll notice a chage for sure. |
