Are these real 914 rims?

Those are aftermarket and pretty rare.

If they are 914 wheels they'll be 4X110mm not 4X130mm?

Maybe it's 924 or 944? The Zenith knock-off wire wheels I have were supposed to have been made for 1 of them? I had them re-drilled to 4X130mm.

Early 924 were 4x112 which is Audi and 944 were 5x130 which is standard Porsche 5 bolt.

What would you say a set of 4 is worth in the US? I'm thinking a polish job and some nice tires would make these great for my 70's beetle. Does these fit without any mods or?

They will bolt on if you have the correct lug bolts.

Ok, are the bolts easy to get hold off, since I take it the original VW bolts won't work...

I'm wondering if they would be a good investment... How big are the Porsche guys on 914?

I think they'd look cool polished up, or powdercoated.

185 or 195/70r14 tires would fit nicely, regardless if you put them on a 914 or a late model VW Type 1.

I'd be concerned on how they're balanced, or damaged somewhat,,,,,,, look at how many stick on wheels weights are on the inner AND outer rim of that one wheel. Bad balance job previously, or inexperience, or,,,,,,

Is polishing magnesium wheels hard to DIY and aren't they 15 inches?

Still needs some ideas on how to do this resto, insofar I've found one metal shop (that's Boeing certed) here in Finland that seems to do proper mag work, but I have a feeling they are kinda pricy, check out their site http://www.tumo.com/index.php/en/

The Finnish Porsche owners seem to love them tough, so I take it they don't do bad work...

I saw the anodizing that they offer and immediately thought that would be cool for color matching the wheels to your basic body color,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, then I remember reading this thread a day or so ago,

About the only thing that you could apply to magnesium that you can buy over the counter is a chromate conversion coating, These contain metal salts instead of oxides and allow the heat to pass. This is what VW put on the cases in the later years.
Anodizing magnesium will completly block the heat flow and after a short time the anodizing will start to crack and spiderweb due to the heat expansion of the case.


I don't really know if that applies to wheels, but it wouldn't hurt to ask Tumo if they've done it before to magnesium wheels with no adverse effects. Just another idea.

And I have to ask, are these wheels actually magnesium, or aluminum? Cause if they're AL, the statements above won't matter.
