| I installed front disc brakes on my Thing and they are a great upgrade. I'm really happy with the SoCal imports kit that I bought and recommend them highly. The only minor complaint is that I'd like firmer pedal feel and a little less travel in the pedal. I have the system adjusted well but the pedal still travels a little more than I'd like it to. I think it's just that the discs need more brake fluid displacement to operate than drums do. Thanks. |

CSP sells a large diameter M/C and an adapter kit. I used this to firm up the pedal on my Beetle with 4-wheel disks. Kinda pricey, but it works.

Wow! You weren't kidding, CSP is really expensive! That scared me so much I looked around a bit and found this at MidAmerica:

It looks to be the same type MC and it comes with an installation kit included. My only question is whether it will fit a Thing. I believe it will, but can anyone confirm? If so, it's $40 and may be worth it.
Also, I'm not familiar with a residual pressure valve, what does it do? |

The master cylinder you found at MAM seems to read like the solution you were asking about. Which kit did you use? I think the AC kit comes with a MC.
Maybe the combination of the replacement MC and the RPV would be really great too! I'll do a disc conversion next year and the RPV is on my list now, depending on pedal play. |

I used the AC industries front disc brake kit for the Thing. It did not come with a MC although I did replace the MC at the same time. If you are doing a conversion anyway, I'd go with a larger MC while you're at it. It probably couldn't hurt and if the system's drained it's not too much more cost or effort. I think I'll research the RPV a little more and try that before the new MC. |
