| Anybody ever drive down Padre Island in their Thing? Just wondering if anybody has ventured past the "4 Wheel Drive Vehicles Only" sign? I was thinking about going camping on the beach with my kid. |

Been to Padre island and *have* a Thing.
When I am there its really freakin hot and windy.
I have to wonder that with a headwind in the extreme heat you may want to be sure you are always moving in your Thing.
The salt on everything is not desirable for a Thing, and if you have any tears or holes in your rear CV joint boots they will likely get caked/filled with sand. (and they die fast once sand gets inside)
I know that there is some issue with getting a tow, even when you are on the park roads. So, if you do go out that way and get stuck you will have to wait for someone to help you, and the Thing has few places to attach a tow strap.
In a place like Port Arthur you can just ride on the beach. In Port A you might be closer to the water than on the offroad dunes, but its flat and there is much less wind. You could put around the beaches in Port A all day and not have anything to really worry about.
Probably useless info, but FYI.
