any updates/photos?
Ya tell me about it...
Yes, plenty. Not as many as I would like but there is still progress. I bought seats from a suzuki sidekick (or similar, can't remember), the seat mounts are a little weird since the inside mounted on the tunnel, so I have yet to make equal length mounts. Just removed a decent amount of rust near the battery tray, and painted it with rustoleum primer, I kinda like the red dirt-like color. I installed the rear quarter windows and the rear window, but have failed 5 attempts with the front. The seal is getting torn up, and im not sure what to do....
I cut the rear fenders, twice. I decided to use the stock rear lights, then thought it looked weird. So I told a friend that was helping me with the windows to cut them any way he wanted while I restrung the front window. I think it turned out pretty decent, needs trimming, but I like the shape. They look better stretched wider, so im thinking of putting a brace to make them wider, the fenders look great with the baja engine cover. Not so much without. I bought front turn signals, a back-up light, two round trailer style stop/turn lights, all from Napa. I am still looking for headlights; Im trying to get it street legal as soon as possible so I can take it up to my school auto shop to take advantage of the tools and ideas there.
Here are some pictures:

Rust removal (I don't like cancer :P)

Installing windows

I think this clamped on metal is what is stopping the windshield from installing all the way

Cutting Fenders

And some out of garage shots, its nice to get the entire car in one picture

Oh ya, i also removed the heater parts. Not the exhaust parts since I need them for my muffler for now, but they will go.

Haven't updated this for a while.

Over the last few months, I have made a few changes to the direction of the car. At first I was going to have a mostly street baja, and started the street legal process. About a month ago, I decided to make it a race bug that will be similar to 5-1600 class. I had rewired the car, installed all the windows, and some other changes. I am now proceeding with the off road only build. Today I removed all the windows  and started the bugs weight loss program. (Anything not needed, was removed.) I removed about 30-50 pounds today, including the windows. I also bought an 002 trans today for quite the bargain of $200.
Here are some pics of the trans:

My plans are for mostly stock suspension (for now to stay in budget), just a cut and turn with some nice shocks and bracing. A race legal cage, fuel cell, suspension seats, and other required safety gear etc. A new paint job (orange). Trimming of the wide eye kit as a one piece is an unnecessary expense at the moment. A Nissan/Infinity SR20DE JDM engine, Kennedy trans adapter and clutch, and a type 2 driveline. One thing I'm not sure about is the drums, whether the stock 4 lug are good enough, or do I need to go to maybe a type 2 or 3 5lug and larger drums.

Anyway, just a little update.

In the future, can you please use the samba photo gallery to host your pictures. I can't see them from where you are hosting.

Thanks

Thanks

He's hosting from photobucket. just right click on the pic, hit properties, and it tells you the link it came from.

yea i cant see them either. Atleast not at work. Photobucket is blocked on government networks....and it makes for some boring forum reading most of the time.

No problem. Its just habit I guess, I've never used Samba's gallery, but will in the future.

EDIT: The trans pictures are now hosted by Samba :)

Any updates on the build??

BugMan114 Mon Oct 12, 2009 8:44 pm

Yeah for sure. it looked like it was really comming together there for a while 8)

Yes there have been updates, just haven't been on this site much lately.

Right now the car is in several pieces, ill get some current pics the next time I get to the shop it's at. Body is off, pan is repainted, and yesterday I started the cut and turn of the beam. Didn't get to far as I have a blazing headache and a sinus infection right now. Yet for some sick reason I drove 20 miles in traffic to go work on the bug yesterday

After the beam is done, I'll start laying steel for the cage. Also I need to truss the torsion, mount the 002, and lift the rear end. Then the inside of the body will be painted all one color (it's like 5 different colors right now haha) and will be put back on the pan.

It's slow work, and I was planning to race this May, but that probably won't happen, hopefully I can get my feet wet in September. Also, I may or may not be buying a class 9 chassis, so the fate of this project is up in the air at the moment. We shall see...

Oh and here is a link to my more updated build thread: http://www.race-dezert.com/forum/showthread.php?t=73701

Just a little taste of its condition a few weeks ago. I really need to get some recent pictures.

I noted in one of your past that you were having trouble getting the windshield in. Those clips will have to be removed for aftermarket w/s rubber.

vaderoni Sat Feb 13, 2010 2:25 pm

Oh ok, well good to know.
Don't really need it now with no windshield at all, but thanks anyway! :)

norcalmike Mon May 30, 2011 1:31 pm

what ever happened to this project?

vaderoni Tue Jul 19, 2011 1:34 pm

Sold it to a local kid (probably older than me haha) a while back.

Currently have a class 9 buggy, which I almost sold, but have since decided to swap and ecotec, my 002 (or an 091 if I find one cheap enough), and 3x3 arms.

Selling all VW engine related parts (I have a LOT), and my swing axle to fund the upgrade.

Front will be getting A-arms. Ambitious and crazy? Probably but whatever, It's not fast enough for me yet.

At the same time, I want a street legal vehicle, so I may still sell and get a baja.... bleh, I buy and sell cars more than I do socks

cmiller95 Tue Jul 19, 2011 2:57 pm

get a class 5 baja, best of both worlds.
