Well I went part of a show season with no vw but with a little help from some good friends I picked this little beauty up :D .
[img][/img]
Then after a day of messing with it this is what it looks like.
[img][/img]
My plans are as follows
1. 6 inch narrowed beam 2.5 inch droppedspindles
2. 1641 with dual 40 kadrons
3. 165/45/15 front tires and 195/60/15 rear.
The best thing is it has no major rust issues .
Po had new pans, and support rails and package tray installed

That looks like a little more than "messing with it".... looks like a great solid car, only thing... 6 in. narrowed beam is HUGE, you gotta start worrying about relocating shock towers and clearance with the headlight buckets and such, 6 just seems a tad drastic.

but then again, it's a tad drastic to have a 2.4 turbo stroker motor... certainly doesnt mean that I dont really want one.... :D To each his own, good luck!

Shocks what shocks also with a 165/45/15 it will not interfere with the headlight bucketts

Saw your location is Garner, you in NC?

I have a 69 'vert, with 1641 and dual 34 mm baby webers. For your dropped spindles, I would recommend the AC Industries disc brake kit from SoCal Imports. No problems with the install on my bug, price was reasonable, and I'm really impressed with the better braking.

I've also done other things to my bug, including comlete rewiring. the 69 and 70 'verts are pretty much alike, I might be able to help with some of your questions.

Or you might be able to help with some of mine.

Yes Garner is in NC just east of raleigh
I purrchased some dropped spindles from wagenhause
This is not my firs vw I have had a 70 standard ,61 Double door,66 squareback , 70 westie, I also do all of my own work and for being cheap it usually turns out good

I am very good with engines and electrical . I am also very meticules (spelling)
The beam will be here on sunday and the engine will be done in about 2 to 3 weeks

No that is the tires I am going to be running .why?

VWsArent4Hippies Fri Oct 31, 2008 2:05 pm

You run a 165/45 on the front of a bus, not a bug. That's going to look like shit.

Wwildman Fri Oct 31, 2008 2:13 pm

Then what would you run?

135s on a balljoint car, 145/65s on a linkpin car

Just run 165/45 all the way around but DONT lower the car.

That will give you 5" of drop right off the bat. :?

actually the best is to run a 145/65/15 front tire. you can get them from tirerack.com they are perfect for the front of a dropped and narrowed bug.

Fuck a 145/65 on a balljoint car. Especially as 4x4 as this vert's gonna be, you could fit a small child in the wheel gap

i gotta agree. i don't like the 145/65/15 on my 66 at all. they are getting replaced with 175/55/15. but the 165/45/15 are WAY to small for a type1 of any sorts. you'll beat yourself about the face if you buy those rubberbands only to find they SUCK. every set i've seen lasted 5-10k tops.

also if you plan on only going 2 notches out back then go 195/65/15 for there. i'd say 185/65/15 instead of if you need to stay on the smaller side. i've got 205/65/15 out back on the java at 2 notches on the Enkeis with no problems....ken....

where did you get the beam fron. Any issues with installing it as far as the body goes or does it fit without any mods?
