I've got 58-65 backing plates and drums, and as you can see, the parking brake comes in on the opposite sides on the backing plates.

69-72 Type 1 M/T (manual) cables fit perfectly in my 56 chassis with later rear brakes.

| You could always flip 'em over and trade sides. I did that on my split to accomodate type III rear drums. |

I think what he means is swap side to side that way your cables will come in from the rear like original instead of the front like the later ones. That way you can run the correct year cables for you car. Your wheel cylinders will still be on top. |
