For decades I have been collecting model cars, and VW stuff.
Where all this began was in building & collecting model cars.
I built model cars as a kid, and then in my late 20's I started building them again.
I got started biulding again by buying a stelf fighter model.
It was interesting that most of the stuff I hacked as an 10 year old
could still be purchased new 20 years later,
and now I had the skills & money to buy paints & tools to actually build these things with some amount of skill & quality.
So for about 10 years I built model cars & then model trucks as my eyesight got worse. (just age no big deal).
I stopped building because my skill level & eyesight no longer achieved my expectatations for the completed models.
I continued to buy models, but not build them for another few years,
and have quite a collection of built & unbuilt models.
Around that point re-discovered VW Tonkas at the Kelly Park VW Show.
I have a collection of VW Tonka Bugs, Tonka started making these in the 60's.
The Tonka VW is about 1/18 scale Metal body toy, and in later versions mildly to radically modifide.
I prefer the older versions that where "stock" appearing and spent a
good deal of time & money on ebay collecting good condition cars in black, light green, blue, red, yellow, metalic red, and metalic green.
I picked up a lot of these cars at VW swap meets, and more on ebay.
This collection ran it's course, and I haven't bought a Tonka VW in years.
The Tonka VW collecting habbit changed to VW Minichamp collection.
Minichamp makes Die Cast 1/43 scale cars & trucks of high quality,
and when I would go down to the Monterey Historic Races I would buy
one or two depending on what ever VW stock they had.
Ebay turned this collection into kind of a fun obsession that has filled two book cases over the last 5 years.
My guess is that including AirCooled & WaterCooled I have at least a 100 of these beauties, and again the collection bug has run it's course.

I feel like I need a 12-step program, at last count I was about 3800. I may have passed the 4000 mark since I haven't counted or gone through everything in 3 years.
