I got to learn how to use the photo part of this computer then I'll get you a picture or two. " I just wanted to see other people cars instead of looking at mine" Lol. Come on, Hesa, Rich, Robert, Pip,Cabrio, and all you others out there stashing your rides. Aloha Lee

Sharing information is always a good idea. Especially if it is saving money and time. I understand though that split vert restoration specific matters can not interest a very big audience.

I´ve been busy studying the original weather strips of the roof and windows of my 51. Some of the seals are already available and further reproduction is planned. The problems I've experienced are that either the prices do not have anything to do with the production cost or then the designs of the reproduced seals are poor.

As an example I was asked 430 Eur for roof to window frame seal and window scrapers. Inside Europe shipping was included.

Just received a quota and placed an order for having 75 meters of the roof to window frame seal produced (in Europe). The price per meter is 3,87 Eur + 75 Eur for tooling excl VAT = total appr 440 Eur. Counting 3,5 meters per car 75 meters is enough for 21 cars and the production price per car will be about 21 Eur.

then, HeSa you should have said you want this thread for sharing info, not for every split vert owner to post pictures and progress with his car.

a more accurate topic start should have been something like this: " a thread for every split vert owner, so we can share opinions, ask questions, debate some vert only parts, share knowledge, ... "

don't get me wrong but this thread started just like any reades rides " post beetles on brm's" " ragtop fest pics post them up" and so on.. just sounded like "post your split vert. "

Bengt H just posted a picture with his vert. not asked questions, not posting any info on his vert... just like in reader's rides forum.

i hope you understand what was i thinking when i posted earlier.. hope no harm was done

June 1951 Split Vert - original stock two tone grey color combination

Making good progress and trying to find the right person to paint it. Everything else is done.

Looking for completion by mid 09'

Rich's 50 Mon Nov 03, 2008 9:24 am

Here is my early 50, All metal work is done thanks to Matt Howard ( the guy is awsome but not cheap ) all the pan is done ( by Mr. Hale and it was done the way i wanted it ) I have it at my friends house right now and he is doing some work also to it. I was hoping to be done with it at this years classic but will see. Heres the last photo i have of it for now.

HeSa Mon Nov 03, 2008 10:08 am

Here´s my 51 as of last summer. Wish there was more to show but the metal work has not been proceeding in the time anticipated. 53 pans - still need get rid of the indents for the rubber mat buttons. Also the clips for the brake line are incorrect. Just a few of the disadvantages of being 2500 kms away from the project.

Block, cylinders and heads went to Czech Republic last weekend for machining. Gear box will go to Netherlands for full restoration as soon as I find the time.

The only missing original part is the co-pilots seat. According to the previous owner it remained in UK in 1987 when the car was bought to France.

I'm 99% positive, that split vert belongs to Mark Merrill, who very graciously let me drive that car down the back roads from San Jose, all the way to Solvang, then blast (if you can do such a thing in a split 'vert, lol) back up the 101 when Solvang was done.
To this day, "Splitting to Solvang" and the "Fall Foliage Tour" that Bill Collins (DKF) put on, are some of my fondest recollections of the time I spent as a magazine dork...
