i just bought a pair of decklid hinge carriers for my 58 vert and installed them and them seem off. first off the carriers had to be bent to index my lid correctly (tried sliding carrriers forward and back and hinges up and down to no avail) after beating them with a rubber dead blow hammer my hood sits at a pretty close gap, still not perfect but the T handle finally locks down the decklid to the apron.
is there a difference between the hinge carriers? these came with a set of U shaped plates for under the carriers and i could not use them because the bolt holes are too narrow front to back to line up with the body (an entire bolt with off) what year did they change this if so? |

| OUCH ... Um... yeah I have noticed this with all my cars too, I was looking for those U-shaped things this summer at swaps and got a set, only to find out that they didn't use them till the later cars, as a result of not having or even being able to use the reinforcement U's the hinge carriers get all bent up around the bottom 3 bolt heads and you have to flatten them back out with a vise or hammer to get the bolt area flat, and then they are likely to still be bent and its pretty much impossible to get the deck lid lined up right, so I would just recommend bending the hinge carriers however you need them to get the decklid gap right, there never seems to be enough adjustment at the bolts to get the gap perfect, I recommend doing this bending before you paint everything then scratch it all up when the decklid rubs all over everything, as far as I can tell all the hinge carriers were the same, I've never been able to find a difference from splits right to the end, the bolt slots may have gotten longer on the later ones but are still interchangeable, the spacing of the threaded holes on the car side are what changed since you cant use the U-reinforcement plates on early cars |
