Have you seen these yet? They go for over $250 but they are cool. Maybe you can buy your own Christmas present this year.

I ordered one. $185 delivered.

But... no confirmation on order, no e-mail follow up, no charge on my card yet.

I'm cautiously optimistic it'll show up...

I don't know. The watch on the German site looks more refined, the metal has a better polish and the band and watch seems thinner. The lines and elements on the watch seem a little less chunky too. I don't think they're the same product, just the same concept.

is it just me, or does the german one(s) have only one hand? what time is it over there?

halfgut Wed Nov 05, 2008 1:00 pm

The "Beetle 52" shows the hour hand pretty well. The Beetle 71 hour hand blends in but if you look closely you can see the white triangle at the tip. I also agree that the German Watch looks a bit more refined than the TS one.

Hmmmmmm. I like the style and face of the German watch. The face looks identical to the actual speedo, while the TS watch looks like a cheap knock off. I do like how the TS watch says 1973 or 1974 (why they put an "8" after it instead of a "0" doesn't make any sense). Too bad the German watch doesn't give you a Thing year option.

I guess the only question now is do I want to pay $185 dollars or $65 dollars for a $9 dollar watch? Since I MUST have one, I guess I'll go all out and order the one "aus Deutschland".

Or you could go here and upload your own art work...

It's only $20 plus shipping.

I dropped $250 on a DeLorean commemorative watch from DeLorean Motor Company. I wore it for a time, and then decided to save it for special occasions because it was getting small wear marks on it from daily use.

I pulled it out of my drawer after a few months and found it dead. After replacing the battery, I found it to be completely broken. I love fine timepieces so having this die on me really pissed me off. It wasn't the nicest watch made, but it barely had any use and it crapped out on me.

Now I see this, and the difference in quality is obvious but I'm still gunshy. :?

That German one is sweet! I had to do the closeup to see the "hour"
hand.
Hmm, christmas hint for the wife maybe,

and Yep, yall are correct, the Thingshops watch isnt the same quality, much less even the same watch. Although for 65 bucks, I could wear it and not sweat messin it up. Its still cool for what it is.

Decision, Decisions.....

Not the same thing, but a desk clock that I made a few years back.

I might go for it if the turn signals or the oil/gen light did something. Like lite up when you've had one to many. I'm sure they could have figured that one out, they're German after all.

Got my watch today from http://www.bavarian-chrono-technology.de

All in all, WOW! It's beautiful, and I don't say that lightly. I normally wear a Rolex Explorer (bought a decade ago for security when traveling, i.e. you can always sell a watch for plane fare home).

I would recommend this watch to anyone who want's something different and loves VWs.

Pics, or it didn't happen.

Ha! You beat me to it!

Three cups of coffee, simple camera flash. Not bad for a Saturday morning.

It's sweet. Very light weight, but so assuring when you look down at it. Hour hand is sublimely small. That's my only dig.

MercurialThing Sat Nov 15, 2008 8:14 am

That's pretty sweet. So have you looked down at twenty past and thought "OMG, I'M DOING 160 MPH!"

Looks pretty big too, I wasn't expecting it to be that large, but I guess with all that detail, it needs to have some size to it.

Nice watch.

That would be 99.4 MPH!

bmwloco Sat Nov 15, 2008 3:35 pm

I don't think I'll ever take my Thing over 120-130 KM, or about 75-80 mph.

The watch, however, will go all the way around a couple times. ;)

I have a real Star Trek watch. It even has a beam up button and COA. It does not keep very good time. A Vintage Collectors Item at its finest.
