Does anyone here no or had experience with a honda i vtec? I was wondering if it rotated the right way.

Might want to try a honda forum.

Since this isnt a Honda forum im not going to post a whole bunch. But if your looking for performance minded VTEC, then stay away from the I-VTEC. Thats not the true VTEC you'd be looking for. The I vtec is more of an emissions based non performance version and isnt the DOHC VTEC you would want.

If you want the real deal vtec then look for a B16 or a B18C1 or B18C5 The B18c's come from the GSR and Type R Integra. Unless you want a VTEC outta a prelude, but those are heavy big motors

im not 100% put i do not think they rotate the correct way.
all you need to do is flip the ring gear in the tranny to solve that tho.
Swapping a K-series into your bug or rail?
if so thats a very potent engine

Are you saying the K20 is not "performance"?

cal63look Thu Nov 06, 2008 1:19 am

Damn, i cant remember the rotation wheter clock wise or counter :?
I-vtec's out of accords are made for gas-mileage not performance.
Better open up the wallet if its a K-series..

People are swapping Vtecs into little ol school mini coopers, look those up on youtube, looks like fun

So where's the person to put a type 1 motor (or type 4) into something other than a bug or sandrail or vw pan. Just think you pop the hood on your rice burner to see a volkswagen motor sitting in the front  :-k

Have it mounted like a mid-engine sandrail but in the front of the car and BAM you've got a front wheel drive vw powered whatever!

Oh no, def not! K20 (rsx motor) Sure there fast, but in the real world a GSR integra or Type R will take the RSX

Here's a little info on them from Wikipedia:

The K-Series motors have two different types of i-VTEC systems implemented. The first is for the performance motors like in the RSX Type S or the TSX and the other is for economy motors found in the CR-V or Accord. The performance i-VTEC system is basically the same as the DOHC VTEC system of the B16A's, both intake and exhaust have 3 cam lobes per cylinder. However the valvetrain has the added benefit of roller rockers and continuously variable intake cam timing. The economy i-VTEC is more like the SOHC VTEC-E in that the intake cam has only two lobes, one very small and one larger, as well as no VTEC on the exhaust cam. The two types of motor are easily distinguishable by the factory rated power output: the performance motors make around 200 hp or more in stock form and the economy motors do not make much more than 160 hp from the factory.

Lol since were speaking of RSX's I just ate one for dinner the other night in the 63 Beetle :D Should have seen that dudes face, priceless!

:?: someone should have told that to every one that drives a mod RSX I mean Hondata even made a special Ecu mod http://www.hondata.com/kpro.html all I-VTEC is (to my understanding) is VTEC with a bunch more maps

cal63look Fri Nov 07, 2008 5:47 pm

I hear ya. ECU mods and VTEC controllers are kind of a waste of money though unless the car is heavily modded. A LOT of people think that if you change the RPM when the VTEC soleniod activates it will give you more power because your in VTEC sooner, but you actually loose power. Dont get me wrong a finely tuned car will create more power, but only so much unless its modded up.

B18c bottom ends are built pretty darn good, they'll handle a 75 shot of Nos all day long.

Also LS/VTEC swaps were pretty popular. Its a LS integra bottom end B18b with a VTEC head B18c.

Think of them as a 1600cc vw motor, you can add the exhaust, 1.25 rocker arms, dual carbs, but at the end of the day you'll still have a 1600cc motor ;)

Back in the day I was very much into the Honda/acura scene (way before fast and furious, LOL) and before they were making body kits. Too many young CHEAP kids turned them into rice machines though by gutting the cats and running straight pipes and it seems like everybody and their sister would put on a black widow body kit (because it was the cheapest and uglest one out there, lol) or at least thats the case in my town.

Also another factor that makes "newer" cars slower is the fact that their not OBDI but OBDII (or whatever system), which is just more emmisions equipment to run at todays standards. For example a 94-95 GSR integra is better than the later because they changed to OBDII.

Car and driver tested the 95 GSR integra along side with the 95 mustang 5.0 (last year of the five-o) and I cant remember which car had what time but I beleive the integra was a 15.1 on the quarter and the stang was a 15.4 on the quarter (and these were stock) Pretty amazing of what a 8,000rpm redline 1.8L 4-cylinder car can do when compared to newer-american muscle.

Wow, did i really just type all this-LOL  :)

Since most people put a air fliter and an drone exhaust on their honda yes and if the real deal people dont know they need an ECU (piggyback reflash or standalone) to make the idiot light go off then they should have stuck with the filter and coffee can  most should buy a good pair of springs instead of using the cut OEM ones they have...

cal63look Fri Nov 07, 2008 6:22 pm

Oh gosh! how did I forget to mention the "cut" springs, dont get me started on that, LOL   . You know what im talking abou then, thats a prime example!!!!! LOL. So so funny and so true...

I still remember in my hatchback, I had some sprint lowering springs that were like a 2.5 inch drop, 17" inch rims that tucked under the fenders (had to roll my back fenders to they'd tuck) (keep in mind this was when the "scene"was starting" Some kids pulled up next to me with their bouncing 4 door accord and said "Eeee How did you get your car so low without it bouncing" LMAO, I pulled over so they could look and check em out. I looked under their car and they cut too many coils off the spings and it wasnt even sitting on them, hahaha. None the less, cut springs are just plain terrible.

I have many many funny stories about those dayz.

cbrann Fri Nov 07, 2008 6:32 pm

I like hearing these types of stories (VW is my second car fetish I started with Hondas and Nissans then realized the re-sale is about the cost of a soda can to what you put in) my dad works as a mechanic shop and will have some kid come in with a drone Neon ("Hot-Rod!") and be asked to put on $20 knock-off exhaust and when he asks them why get "I dunno" lol it's really sad Im still in High school and know more than they do

The euro-scene ( or well what turned into a rice scene) has died considerably over the last few years...

What about this rice -From putting colored vinyl brows on the top of the front and back windshield to running one single wiper that stays in the middle of the windshield.

cbrann Fri Nov 07, 2008 6:48 pm

8) I saw a great ricer today A DA 'teg infront of my school Flat Red with a what may have been spray paint black hood and you could hear the Bass on their stereo unscrewing everything. Yeah it seems everytime they make a new Fast & Furious movie the "scene" gets flushed

runslikeapenguin Fri Nov 07, 2008 6:57 pm

best ricer story ever belongs to me, i had seen this car around town, total POS. blue integra, underglow lighting with a spoiler and a bopdy kit that was probably zip tied on and of course speakers with a fart can and i had always made fun of it because of how absurd it was.

well one day early in the morning i was heading to school when i see this car hauling ass down this hill twords the three way intersection and he floors it to make the yellow light but hes not going straight, hes turning right!
so realizing hes going about 30mph to fast to make the turn he decides that tokyo drifting it by pulling his ebrake is the best plan of action. i saw him do it the throw up hand motion and then i saw the look on his face as the car dident even try to turn right and just flew across the intersection sideways hopped the curb ripping both of his tires off the bead, destroying the rims and the body kit with the underglow lighting shattering every where and into the light pole that smashes up the side and rear of his car. he gets out shaking and looks at the car and says "ahh it was because i had the spare on" which was when i noticed the doughnut on the back of the car

a few days later i stumbled upon its resting place and decided to get a picture

cbrann Fri Nov 07, 2008 7:04 pm

LOL!!! someone should have told him dont play tokyo drift until you know your car is RWD (or you know your car wont fold in half like that) that car is real shame looks like a RSX Type-S (X <-- got that one wrong it's a DC2)

Major Woody Fri Nov 07, 2008 10:15 pm

That is an awesome story. It's too bad that doesn't happen more often.
