I have a 72 superbeetle and it is only running on cylinders 1 and 2. At idle it sounds fine but as soon as you add a load it stalls.
We are getting spark at the plugs ok
The compression is ok
but its just not fireing
Thanks |

| Drivers side carb must not be getting fuel. |

| are the plugs good? push rods broke? have you ran it with the valve cover off and see if you can see what the problem is? broke rocker assembly? |

i have not taken the motor apart yet im just trying to get some ideas.
It goes from the carb. and splits to both sides right? I think that is not getting fuel either and it's the push rods too. any simple way to check? |

| pull the fuel line off the carb and see if fuel is coming out. what kind of carbs? my dual Dellorto's the line from the pump goes to the driver side carb, then a line runs from that carb to the other. there is not a T fitting with dellorto's. not sure about webers or whatever you are running. |

Have you replaced the distributror cap and rotor?
The cap only fits correctly one way. |

| we are the past that. the spark plugs are new and the wires have been replaced. Good spark on the plugs just seems to be missing when there is a load in the car. I think its having a problem with the fuel |

| Have you confirmed firing order? Try swaping those plug wires. Also are you checking for spark at the plug end or at the dizzy cap? If its a center mounted carb then you shouldnt have a fuel problem, unless theres a mouse that crawled in there and its blocking that side of the intake  |

| Have you checked your timing also, maybe your dizzy aint advancing correctly. Also maybe your distributor is 180 degrees out. Sounds very much like an ignition problem to me. Did this problem start after you changed to new wires or is that the reason you changed them? |

| i have the fireing order right and i changed the wires because it wasn't fireing. we played with the timming and it didn't help. |

| i don't think its a spark issue because it will run on the one side. I switched the plugs and it didn't make a diff. i dont know what kind or carb it is and whats a dizzy? |

it sounds like a problem some guy had a few weeks back.
1. take the cap off the dizzy and turn your engine to top dead center. make sure youre not 180 out the rotor on your dizzy should be pointing to the fuel pump.
2. put your cap over the dizzy but not on yet. no connect the no.1 wire to the plug closets to the front of the rotor. now put the cap on.
3. from 1 go clock wise 4,3,2,1
try it again if you still have problems shoot me a pm and i'll give you my number and guide you by phone good luck |
