Does anyone know where one can purchase the metal channel that the engine compartment seal fits in to? The channel isn't included on the H aprons made by Wolf Parts.

You mean this link?

It seems to be a bare-bone piece, to work on it. Doesn´t have exhaust exit too... Did you buy it or you´re still looking for?

Maybe you should try searching in thesamba classifieds the keyword "H apron". There are a few nearest you are... and cheaper

I have the apron, never gave much thought to the seal channel not being part of it until I got it. I can't be the only one who has bought an apron from them and ended up needing this piece. I suppose I could buy a cheap repro apron and pull the channel off of it but that would be an expensive way to go.

How about this:

He's talking about the engine compartment (tin) seal. That is the decklid body seal channel.

I'd say best bet is find a donor apron to scavenge it off.

Yes, I know he was talking about the rear seal. The piece from Wolfsburgwesat could still be used for it.

I don't think that would hold it. As you know the engine bay seal has two protrusions, and neither are "beaded" like the hood/decklid seals. I would think it would just fall out.

A sheet metal shop could fab something I'm sure, but it would be difficult to get the bend in the curves without the inner, rolled over edges kinking. I think VW must have used a forming die for the channel and curvature, as opposed to just making a straight section and bending it. The originals really have no kinks (repro aprons will). That is why I think the best option might be to find an original, and drill it off.

I guess John is right. But maybe the people of Wolf Parts could give a good point to solve this. If not, is all a matter of costs... I don´t know wich is the cost for a sheet metal work (including exhaust...) but, in case, should compare this with the price of a good used apron

I think that part is the same on later model aprons, and aprons where the rest of it is trashed could be had for cheap I'd guess.
