I've ordered some Ghia sheet metal from KGPR and Cip1. The metal is covered in a gray primer/paint. Is this weld through primer? Should it be removed prior to welding? Should it be removed an replaced with Por-15 (heater channels)?
Thanks,

I always remove this paint. Some replacement metal paint holds up better than others but you won't go wrong by removing it and applying your own finish.

As far as por-15 it is up to you. If you think moisture will be an issue where you drive then do it. Be sure to follow their instructions using the marine clean, metal ready, and then paint. Their tech line is decent so call them with your questions.

I have reminded people in a numder of threads that the packing primer (ruddy-colored) or enamel must be removed from aftermarket panels. The paint is shot on over smooth, unconditioned sheet metal (to save time) to give the metal some protection during shipping and storage. Use a media blaster to remove the enamel and condition the metal before painting.
There is no way that thet would use very expensive weld-thru primer to coat it. Also, it is used just where there is going to be heat during welding.
