View original topic: Replica 914 wheels/Disc brake Q's

I'm interested in changing rims on my '69 vert. Presently it's got a beat-up set of 8 spokes which work ok with the front disc brakes and a spacer. I've also got a 5 inch narrowed beam from the ChopShop.
I'd like to go 4 wheel disc brakes and the replica 914 wheels, but according the the below link, I can't use 914's and discs.

Could it be a spacer issue with the 914's also?
Thanks in advance!

What kinda of vehicle is this you are talking about?

I have the real 2.0 rims and have about a 1/2" clearance from the bottom

of my ball joint to the inside of the rim. I also have 2-1/2" lowered ball joints.

For what you are paying for the fake ones you probably can locate the real

mccoy in the classifieds here on thesamba.

Why would you need spacers? They should bolt right up with no spacers and clear the calipers. Your local tire shop like Discount tires should carry those Eagle Alloy/Boss rims save your self some shipping. I thought they were only around $120 ea. new.

I'm using spacers on the front discs to clear the "bump" on the caliper. I didn't want to grind the bump off at the time of install, as they were brand new and if there was a defect I couldn't return the calipers in a modified condition.
Anyway, the question still stands . BTW it's a '69 type 1 'vert.

Buy the real 914 alloys for less they fit the 914 disc brakes. The 914 are the same rotors and calipers as the VW 67 and newer Ghia and type 3's. And no spacers needed.

Not true... Type 1 rotors are not the same as 914.

The bolt pattern is the same but the rotors are different.
