Ok, maybe Things don't go "Fweem" but- I finally had 30 minutes to install a 205T distributor to match my H30/31 carb. Andy (Glutomodo) was right of course. The differnce is night and day. An H30/31 pict just does not draw enough vacuum to advance a DVDA/SVDA at the proper rate. I could feel it when I drove and my mileage really wasn't good.
For those just tuning in, I did NOT choose to install an H30/31. The car came with it, and it was brand-new so I was loathe to just pitch it and buy a new 34 Pict 3. And since I had the 205T just laying around in the basement from the last Bugout swap meet, it was a free fix.
Uh...just one question: Do I time a 205T distributor (I like to call it an SVSA) for 0 or 7.5 BTDC? I'm pretty sure it won't be 5 ATDC like a DVDA with a 34 P 3 would be. |

Hmm, thanks for the tip about the SVDA distributor. My engine is cursed with a H30/31 Pict, and even now that it is tuned decently, I get around 15mpg. That is combined with an 034 that needs to be replaced (point hold down screw hole is cross threaded).
Btw, I just looked up the 205T, and the page I found about it (http://www.msgulfcoastvwclub.org/TechPages/Tech2.html) showed 0deg TDC for the timing. That is on a '69-'70 1500/1600 engine, so I am not sure if that is correct for your engine or not. |

Yeah, I think you're right. It should be 0 vs 7.5 BTDC because I'm running a 1600 and that dizz was used across the 1500-1600 transition.
Only question is: Was that on a 1600 SP or DP? What to do, what to do?
But yeah, if you're going to stick w/the H30/31, get a 205T. Either that, or put the original 34 pict 3 carb back on it. |
