View original topic: dome light switch bezel with no holes
StockNazi Mon Nov 10, 2008 10:21 am

I recently went to my tool box to get the needle-nose pliers I modified to remove a dome light swith and was confused when I found the bezel was absent the 2 holes needed for removal. The switch is installed in a January 57 standard. Anyone seen this before? Any suggestions for removing it w/o messing up the bezel?

I would worry about both the bezel and the paint on the column support. Use plenty of painter's tape and tape off the painted areas first. Then run tape around the bezel (twice if you can). You'll have to grip the bezel with either channel locks (from straight on) or with needle nose from the side. It's all dependent on even pressure with the grips and watching closely so that you don't slip... slow and easy.

I would grip it with a pair of pliers that have a round grabbing area with a dense towel as protection. Hopefully it will turn easily as it's very easy to mar the bezel.

Don't use needle nose you will want something as broad as possible allowing the least amount of grabbing pressure, and like stated above use a towel and or tape to prevent marring bezel and paint.

Could you drill your own two perfect holes?

I wonder if the bezels on inside out with the holes facing the pod.

A small worm hose clamp around it will protect it from the plier attack.

i like the clamp idea, protecting the bezel with tape before installing.
the holes should be on the edge of the bezel, not on the face.
