Well, last night on the way home, my generator locked up solid.
I want to know can this be rebuilt, and if it can, can it be done to have a higher amp output, or is it pointless to do so.
Or should i just let it sit, and buy a new one if they're available. I'd like to take this nice 67 gen off my motor, it still works, and would like to save it. |

The bearings probably went out.
6202 is the number on the bearings. They are not that expensive. Rebuild it yourself. |

What's the bearing numbers for a 6v unit? Where can I get the bearings? |

6V and 12V take the same bearings. 6202.
You should be able to get them at a local parts store, or bearing supply house. |

| And get the sealed ones, which, according to Mr. Adney, last forever, and offer a peace of mind. |

No way am I paying $25 plus shipping for a generator bearing.
The skate board bearings prices look good. |

Thanks I agree with being frugal. |

| I finally pulled my generator hoping that the noise was just the old belt slipping. I was wrong. The generator wasn't completely locked up yet but a couple mor drives and it would have been. I dismantled the generator and found a tight bearing, no big suprise. Luckily there is a skate shop 50ft from my house so getting the replacement bearing will be easy. How do I get the old bearing off and should I get everything on the inside nice and shiny? |

| IIRC, the bearings used in skateboard wheels are a bit smaller than the ones used in the generator. The generator bearings are similar, bur a little bigger, so a skate shop probably wont have them. To get the bearing off the generator shaft, you will need a bearing puller and to get the new ones back on, you will need to very gently press or pound it on. I just had my 6v generator rebuilt for not a lot of $$$. |
